Fact Check Friday

[Fact Check Friday #8] Alderman Pat Dowell never raised the proposal with NTA despite having plenty of opportunities. Chicago 3rd ward alderman Pat Dowell said NTA had many opportunities to discuss the CPS proposal with her. Principal of NTA, Isaac Castelaz refuted her claim by offering several revisions to her statement. Let us set the record straight one more time.

[Fact Check Friday #7] CPS' financial argument to turn NTA into a high school is invalid. Although Chief Eduction Officer Janice Jackson denied it, CPS has been repeating that it is "cheaper" to convert NTA rather than building a new high school in South Loop area. Their legitimation is INVALID. Let's fact check.

[Fact Check Friday #6] Alderman Pat Dowell had dramatically changed her stance regarding school integration in just one year.
Chicago 3rd Ward Alderman Pat Dowell says she refuses to open a brand new school that shuts out low-income black students, but her commitment to school integration is QUESTIONABLE. Let's hear what she said just one year ago.

[Fact Check Friday #5] NTA works hard to integrate our students, within structurally segregated CPS system.
CPS Chief Education Officer Janice Jackson said that NTA General education was a problem because "it is all Black" and had no opportunities to mingle with students of different races and socioeconomic backgrounds. That is a QUESTIONABLE and INCORRECT accusation. Let us compare how differently CPS and NTA approach to racial integration!

[Fact Check Friday #4] Students living in Long Grove and Hilliard can happily walk to NTA.

CPS Chief Education Officer Janice Jackson said that CPS could not ask students living in Long Grove House and Hilliard Homes to walk past a new South Loop Elementary building to go to NTA. But that is geographically INCORRECT. Let's check the map and walk their route to NTA together.

[Fact Check Friday #3] NTA General education students' performance is outstanding.

CPS Chief Education Officer Janice Jackson said NTA General education students are not "seeing the same level of performance" as NTA Regional Gifted Center students. NTA never compares our kids because we are one school community where everyone collectively work toward the common goal. In order to prove Janice Jackson's statement is false, just this time, we present this comparative data.

[Fact Check Friday #2] We are thousands of citizens concerned for educational equity

Alderman Dowell called us "a small group of parents". Chief Education Officer Janice Jackson said we were "a small group of people". Are we really? Let's check the fact. (Oct. 13, 2017)

[Fact Check Friday #1] General education students are the ones driving NTA's Level 1 rating
Alderman Dowell's Office keeps telling people that NTA's Level 1 rating is because of Regional Gifted Center students. THAT IS NOT TRUE. Let's check the fact. (Oct. 6, 2017)
